Testing Quasi-Causal Hypotheses Using Multivariate Twin Data

چکیده

I find the use of a correlation coefficient a dangerous symptom. It is an enemy of generalization, a focuser on the “here and now” to the exclusion of the “there and then.” Any influence that exerts selection on one variable and not the other will shift the correlation coefficient. What usually remains constant under such circumstances is one of the regression coefficients. If we wish to seek for constancies, then, regression coefficients are much more likely to serve us than correlation coefficients. (Tukey, 1969, p. 89).

Testing Several Rival Models Using the Extension of Vuong\'s Test and Quasi Clustering

The two main goals in model selection are firstly introducing an approach to test homogeneity of several rival models and secondly selecting a set of reasonable models or estimating the best rival model to the true one. In this paper we extend Vuong's method for several models to cluster them. Based on the working paper of Katayama $(2008)$, we propose an approach to test whether rival models h...

Testing hypotheses about direction of causation using cross-sectional family data.

We review the conditions under which cross-sectional family data (e.g., data on twin pairs or adoptees and their adoptive and biological relatives) are informative about direction of causation. When two correlated traits have rather different modes of inheritance (e.g., family resemblance is determined largely by family background for one trait and by genetic factors for the other trait), cross...

Fuzzy decision in testing hypotheses by fuzzy data: Two case studies

In testing hypotheses, we may confront with cases where data are recorded as non-precise (fuzzy) rather than crisp. In such situations, the classical methods of testing hypotheses are not capable and need to be generalized. In solving the problem of testing hypotheses based on fuzzy data, the fuzziness of the observed data leads to the fuzzy p-value. This paper has been focused to calculate fuz...

Quasi-causal associations of physical activity and neighborhood walkability with body mass index: a twin study.

OBJECTIVE Physical activity, neighborhood walkability, and body mass index (BMI, kg/m(2)) associations were tested using quasi-experimental twin methods. We hypothesized that physical activity and walkability were independently associated with BMI within twin pairs, controlling for genetic and environmental background shared between them. METHODS Data were from 6376 (64% female; 58% identical...

Fuzzy decision making in testing hypotheses: An introduction to the packages ``FPV" and ``Fuzzy.p.value" with practical examples

This paper reviews and compares two R packages ``FPV" and ``Fuzzy.p.value".These packages are designed for testing hypotheses in a fuzzy environment using a fuzzy $p$-value based approach. In fact, the packages ``FPV" and ``Fuzzy.p.value" propose some useful functions for testing hypotheses when the data / hypotheses are fuzzy rather than crisp. The proposed methods and function...
